Last weekend I finally pushed myself to go try the relatively new row class now offered at some of the Btone Fitness locations. I had been putting this class off because I thought I wouldn’t enjoy a full class dedicated to rowing, but I was wrong. The class itself is only 45 minutes so it flies by; plus the instructor designs the class so that you hop on and off the rower to allow for some strength training on the side!
The class format is somewhat HIIT inspired on the rower; lots of short sprints or pyramid style timed rowing (i.e. row for 2 minutes, break, row for 4 minutes, break, row for 8 minutes, break then go back down to 4, 2, etc.). The class is individual in nature but is empowering to do in a group with high energy! The workout is low impact and great for those who are looking to get a good cardio workout with lots of muscle building and toning at the same time!
I highly recommend checking this class out! It is offered at multiple Btone studios in and outside of the Boston area; check out their site here: http://www.btonefitness.com/
Pure Barre Platform finally arrived at Pure Barre Wellesley this past week, so I quickly signed up for the first official class. I have been very anxious and excited for Platform since it has a large cardio component, something that is missing from a regular Pure Barre workout.
Let me just say…Platform is on a VERY different level than a normal Pure Barre class; and is actually totally different and pretty much incomparable…
The class is high intensity and cardio based but still incorporates the same toning techniques as Pure Barre does. It has what are called “cardio bursts’ that occur throughout class during the warm up, thigh sprints, seat work and even ab work! These bursts are big and fast movements thatt make your heart rate quickly sky rocket. My favorite cardio burst are the jumps that occur during seat work – you have the opportunity to fly for a few seconds by jumping off the platform while holding onto the bar (I am sure some of you have seen the videos).
The technique of the class is focused on much bigger movements than the small contractions used during a Pure Barre class – this is hard to adjust to at first, but it is what allows you to keep your heart rate up throughout the class; burning calories and fat more rapidly! The class flew by with its upbeat tempo and “double time” sprints that caused my thighs to burn like never before. Class ended and I was dripping in sweat and feeling a new kind of Pure Barre high.
I cannot say enough great things about this class and can’t wait for everyone to try it. You do not have to be super coordinated to succeed in this class; all the movements are simple and easy to pick up on quickly! So check out the schedule at your local Pure Barre as these classes pop up in 2016!
This past week I finally made it to the brand new Cyc Fitness Spin Studio in the Back Bay. This spinning brand began a couple years ago and is now starting to expand. Cyc Fitness is unique because it is a full body workout. Designed by Keoni Hudoba, an Under Armour sponsored athlete and trainer it is made to maximize your workout in the 45 minutes of class.
“Cyc offers an exhilarating, beat-based, 45 minute ride that activates the whole body, the whole time. Weights are incorporated into sectors inspired by more than 20 different sport movements such as boxing, volleyball and swimming.” -CycFitness
Let me just say you really do fall in love at first Cyc. This class is HIGH energy and so much fun. Master Trainer, Steph Dietz, taught the class with so much passion and enthusiasm. She mixed in a bit of boxing, swimming, and volleyball movements with weights throughout the class which really makes the 45 minutes fly by. Steph has a way of pushing you mentally and physically and when you reach the finish line you truly feel accomplished.
(and wanting to come back for more..)
Not only was I able to take a Cyc class that night but I also got a 30 minute preview of Kick It By Eliza’s signature workout! The whole night was a BLAST. I am totally hooked with the high intensity and upbeat vibes of CycFitness and can’t wait to come back. As for Eliza, I can’t say enough great things about this girl and her passion around what she does. I am taking a full Kick It class next week and will do a blog recap; stay tuned!
If you are in the area definitely check out Cyc Fitness sooner rather than later or look for some of their other locations: Cyc Fitness Boston
